What is Application Letter?

A letter of application, also known as a cover letter, is a document sent with your resume to provide additional information about your skills and experience to an employer. The letter of application is intended to provide detailed information on why you are a qualified candidate for the job. A letter containing an application to work in an institution, company, or limited liability company, which generally has sections containing self-identity, services that can be performed, education, to a description of expertise, and experience.

In a job application letter, one must introduce and promote oneself properly, without making it up. This aspect is one of the assessment materials for the company's leadership, whether a person is worthy of acceptance or not.
That's why, it is important to know things related to job application letters, such as systematics, elements, steps to compose to examples.

Job Application Letter Systematics

1. Write the place and date of the letter writing
➛The first step to take when compiling a job application letter is to write down the place and date the letter was written.
Example: Yogyakarta, 11 December 2020

2. Attachments and things
➛Informing how many attachments are included, for example an application with four sheets of applicant's identity and qualifications.
Example: Attachment: Four sheets
Subject : Notice

3. Mailing address to be addressed
➛Write down the address where the letter will go. Here are some things to consider when writing a mailing address in a job application:
1. A job application letter is an official letter, meaning that we are not just writing to someone, therefore a correct job application letter will not use 'to'.
2. The address should be no more than three lines to shorten the content of the letter.
3. The position does not use gender titles such as father or mother.
4. The text description 'Street' in the address should not be abbreviated.
5. Mailing addresses are not sentences, therefore do not use periods at the end of each line.

4. Greetings and opening
➛Is a greeting or greeting that usually begins with the phrase 'With respect' to start a formal job application letter.
Example:

5. Contents
The content of the job application letter consists of the following:
➛Personal identity
Self-identity contains name, date of birth, address, last education and other things can be added as needed. Examples of identity:

Place of birth: Bandung, January 25, 1999

Last education: S-1 Biology Education

Address: Jl. Diponegoro No.354, Semarang, Central Java

➛Purpose and objectives
Contains information about the sender's or applicant's reasons for writing the letter.
➛Declare attachment
Job vacancies will ask for several required documents including diplomas, identity cards, to photographs, and so on.

6. Cover
➛Make a sweet closing in your job application letter. Don't forget to say thank you.
Example:
Thus I made this job application letter, I really hope to be given the opportunity to take part in the interview selection so that I can explain my potential in more detail.

7. Closing greetings, your signature and full name
➛The signature and full name are located in the lower right corner of the letter.

• Second paragraph: What you have to offer the employer. This is your hook where you highlight examples of the work performed and achieved results. Draw on your key competencies from your resume, although don't copy it word for word. Bullet points in this paragraph are extremely effective in drawing your reader's eye to your successes.

• Third paragraph: Your knowledge of the company. Show that you did your research and know something about the business and how you can contribute to its mission.

• Fourth paragraph: Your closing. Summarize what you would bring to the position and suggest next steps by requesting a meeting or suggesting a call.

Language Rules for Job Application Letters

  1. Keep writing clean, easy to read, according to spelling rules.

  1. Type of job application letter:
  • Job application letter combined with curriculum vitae. In this way, the curriculum vitae includes the contents of the letter because its contents are combined. This method is also known as the combined model.
  • Cover letter separated from curriculum vitae. In this way, the curriculum vitae is an appendix and this method is called a separate model.
     2. Steps to write a job application letter:
  • Write the structure or elements of a job application letter according to the systematics. Each section can be filled by one main sentence first.
  • Develop the entire section that has been written previously, developing the main sentence into full paragraphs or paragraphs with descriptions. Ignore things that seem wrong, such as spelling, ineffective sentences, and so on. Pour out all your ideas first without the slightest hesitation.
  • Reread and pay attention to the various elements and languages that exist, then correct them, such as standard language, spelling, effective sentences, and so on.
